How to Resolve Disk Corruption in Mac

Mac hard drive problems has been one of the most prominent issues of the past. Every so often, Mac OS X users find themselves into critical situations of data loss. Various contingencies responsible for data corruption on Mac hard drives include power-related problems leading to improper system shutdowns, hardware issues (bad RAM, bad sectors, etc.), bad programming causing hard system restarts, and the like. These issues result in hard drive directory corruption. As a consequence, some of the files stored on your drive become inaccessible or apparently go missing. To easily overcome these issues and recover your valuable data, you should do Mac recovery through advanced third-party software.

Let us consider a real-time scenario. Suppose, you are using Mac OS X v 10.4 on your personal laptop. Since last week, you have been facing issues with your hard drive. Every time you boot your system, you get a message asking you to restart. On doing the same, you get another message asking to verify the logs. You are unable to do this. Additionally, your laptop has slowed down to a crawl.

On running the utilities programs, you get the following messages:

'”Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit”

“Disk Utility stopped verifying “Macintosh HD” because the following error was encountered: The underlying task reported failure on exit”

The above errors indicate that your startup volume “Macintosh HD' is corrupt. In order to fix this, you can try booting from the Mac OS X installation DVD and then perform repair using Disk Utility. If you end up with another error and the Disk Utility fails, should try to repair the disk permissions. This is to ensure that all permissions on the OS X system components are correct.

If you still face problems with your drive, then you should reinstall Mac OS X on your startup disk. This would involve formatting the corrupt volume, which indeed causes data loss. In order to recover the formatted data intact, you should use third-party Mac data recovery tools like Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery. These software use adroit methods to recover data from corrupt or inaccessible HFS, HFS+ and FAT file system based Mac volumes. They also support recovery from removable media, such as optical disks, USB drives, memory cards, etc. Moreover, they are compatible with both Intel based Macs and Power PCs.
