No one in this busy life has that much spare time to check whether the application that I am using for backup my important data is working fine or not. Everyone is running behind portability functionality and usability. Apple understands it all, it launched series of portable devices such as iPhone, iPad etc enriched with advanced features. But two common problem with portable devices are storage capacity and backup. Carrying external hard drive every time just to backup or use iPhone or iPad data is not a good idea, at least for me.
To make this simple Apple introduced – iCloud. What all it requires is iOS5 and iTune10.5 (only simple setting is needed) after that it will automatically take backup of your data more interesting on clouds. That means Apple provides an on line storage device accessible to devices (as iPhone, iPad, Mac, or windows) with the help of wi-fi. Your device will automatically take backup when it is plugged and connected to wi-fi so you really need not to take care about it. Also, this backup is automatically synchronized with all the devices enabled iCloud. It will create backup of device setting, Apps data, mail, MMS, SMS, photos, videos in camera. It only backup your purchase record (not purchase data as ebooks, music etc) to save space and maintain the upload time. But if you need them you can trace them back using that record which it keep in backup store.
How to use iCloud backup
To use the backup present in iCloud most simplest way is “backup to this computer” or also you can use Time Machine for the same.
Using iCloud does not mean you do not need time machine backup. If you think so here is one scenario for you:
I have saved some business appointments at my iCal and set automated alarm using an third party utility to remind me about any engagement at least an hour before. I have created iCloud backup and become comfortable enough that everything is fine so really does not care about the original copy of iCal present in my Mac and that accidentally deleted. I went to iCloud backup it really increase my heartbeat level the iCal present there was empty!
Reason Behind this: iCloud actually do not allow anyone to overwrite the data. It always consider data present there as parent and the other as child and will not accept child until parent is present there. Actually what happened when I connected device first time it took backup of everything including iCal and then after fixing appointment when I connected the same device it considered iCal as child as left that.
Solution: I got my iCal data backup when I restored it from Time Maschine (thanks to automatic Backup). So if you are using iCloud still make sure you have taken proper backup of all the important data either using time maschine or use any third party tool such as Shield by Stellar. Also, creating Mac Hard drive Clone is always tried and tested formula to keep yourself away from any such situation.
