Mac Disk utility is provided to every user with Mac OS X as first aid tool kit so its always wise to keep it with in your reach. Mac Disk utility is multi purpose, multi functional, user friendly easy to use tool available freely with Mac OS X. Its present in: /Applications/Utilities/disk utility
What this multi talented utility can do?
- Mount & Unmount volume: When you find yourself puzzled about how to remount your hard drive or when drive refuses to mount of course you are welcome to /Applications/Utilities/disk utility section. Just launch it and find the connected but unmounted drives in the left column. Just select that volume and click “mount” button.
- Erase CD RW/DVD-RW Disk: No need of other software to erase the data of RW CD, the first aid tool kit can do it for you.
- Completely Erase drive: Disk utility can erase data beyond recovery. By default it uses zero fill algo to wipe the data so that no one can recovery it even after using any recovery software.
- Partition Drive: User can resize Mac partitions without data loss using disk utility.
- Create disk Image: Backup utility! Data is always major concern for users. It facilitate the users to create image of data to fight against future data loss.
- Create a multi session disc: Do you know you can save more data after burning CD once. Yes, disk utility provide you facility to append data when you want. Use following steps for the same:
- Launch Disk Utility
- Create an image file of the data you want to burn
- Select Images
- Burn
Now if you want to add data, Go to Disk Utility again (you cannot add data by using the Finder’s Burn command) You can repeat the appending process until the disc is full. When you mount a disc with multiple sessions, each session will mount as a separate volume.
